Declaration of Independence reading set as Old Home Day theme

NEW SALEM — Old Home Day Committee approves Declaration reading as event theme. The committee, meeting July 28 in New Salem, selected a Declaration of Independence reading with Ken Levine of Petersham in period costume as its centerpiece program. Chair Jeanne Clayton reported raising $700.81 in pledges, with an anonymous resident offering backup funding up to $1,500.

The town is contributing $1,400 toward the estimated $2,893 event budget. The committee approved purchase of 125 town mini-flags for $257 and set the fire department lunch at $12 per burger meal, targeting $600 for the Fire Association.
