Finance Committees Agree to Let Swift River School Seek State Petition

New Salem and Wendell Finance Committees agree to allow Swift River School to seek state petition for E&D use. The school's excess and deficiency was certified at $669,539; state law caps carry-forward at approximately 5% of operating, or $173,880. The finance committees agreed to let the school petition the state to use $150,000 of the surplus to cover a current-year deficit driven by Group Health Insurance increases, with the remainder returning to the towns.
New Salem is estimated to receive $125,000. The meeting was cut short when the Select Board began their concurrent session and removed the towns from the shared Zoom.
