Board approves office relocation and security upgrades

New Salem Board of Selectmen unanimously approves office relocation and enhanced security measures. The board voted to move the Town Coordinator's office to the Annex and relocate the Town Clerk into the current Coordinator's office, implementing video surveillance and panic buttons for staff safety in response to a state security inspection. Tax Collector Kathy Soule-Regine announced her intention to retire before the end of the current fiscal year, recommending assistant treasurer Jake Voelker as her successor; the board deferred official action on the succession to March 16.
The board also unanimously approved remaining in the Upper Pioneer Valley Veteran's District and agreed to participate in a Fix-it Day event organized by the Franklin County Waste Management Group.
