Finance Committee recommends playground improvements, plans highway cuts

New Salem Finance Committee recommends free-cash funding for playground improvements. The committee backed a $13,000 Recreation Commission project for playground equipment and surface materials, applying $4,600 in donations to reduce the tax impact. The committee also supported an additional $1,545 Old Home Day Committee budget request.
Facing a 6.5 percent Mahar assessment increase of $585,209, the committee directed the Highway Superintendent to cut operations spending by $50,000 for fiscal 2027 as part of a three-year reduction plan, with a $17,000 reserve fund transfer for highway equipment repairs to be voted on March 13.
