NEW SALEM — Council on Aging pursues $17,000 state grant for paid assistant. The New Salem Council on Aging, with all seven voting members present, is working toward a $17,000 Massachusetts Councils on Aging grant to hire a part-time paid assistant for one year at $21 per hour, 16 hours weekly; the committee raised extensive questions about hiring procedures, management responsibilities, and oversight. The committee also proposed increasing the foot clinic contribution from $5 to $10, subject to cost analysis, and approved moving lunch meetings from the second Friday to the third Friday of each month beginning September 18.
Clerk Betsy Pelz announced she will retire in September after four years of service.
